Microsoft Copilot is a family of generative AI experiences that can help users create content, answer questions, and work with information. At BYU, Copilot offerings vary based on licensing and intended use. Employees and students have access to Copilot Chat Basic with enterprise data protection, while Microsoft 365 Copilot Premium is available for purchase through BYU for eligible users. Copilot Studio provides additional capabilities for creating and extending agents, with availability, approval requirements, and potential additional costs determined by BYU. User data within BYU’s enterprise-protected Copilot experiences is not used to train the underlying AI models.
Conditionally Approved
Microsoft Copilot is conditionally approved: some features are approved and available, while others are not. Refer to the table below for details.
Microsoft Copilot Chat and licensed Microsoft 365 Copilot provide enterprise data protection. Under Microsoft’s contractual commitments, prompts, responses, and Microsoft Graph data are not used to train foundation models.
However, Nonpublic Institutional Data should not be entered or shared through Microsoft Copilot chat.
