Microsoft Copilot Enterprise Now Available
Microsoft Copilot Enterprise Now Available Across Campus
As of March 2024, students, faculty and staff now have access to use Microsoft Copilot Enterprise (formally Bing Chat Enterprise), at no cost to the user. Microsoft Copilot Enterprise is a Generative AI service similar to other AI services on the market (ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, etc). Access to Microsoft Copilot Enterprise can be gained through logging into the Copilot service with a BYU Net ID and password. Doing so will give users access to a special version of Microsoft Copilot that, according to BYU's contractual agreement, should not store data entered into the service.
Despite these security measures, BYU users should still ensure they follow BYU's Data Use, Privacy, and Security policy. Specifically, Nonpublic Institutional Data should not be shared through Microsoft Copilot chat.
Please note that Microsoft Copilot Enterprise is a separate product than Microsoft Copilot 365 (for Office applications) and Copilot Studio. The BYU AI Task Force is still evaluating these services as well as other GenAI services.
You can access Microsoft Copilot Enterprise by logging into the Copilot service with a BYU Net ID (netid@byu.edu) and password.
To start using Microsoft Copilot Enterprise:
- Visit copilot.microsoft.com.
- Select “Sign in with a work or school account” after selecting the "Sign in" button in the upper right corner of the page.
- Enter your netid@byu.edu and associated password.
- Complete Duo two-factor authentication.
Copilot is also available via the Google Play Store and Apple App Store for your mobile device.
You will know you have signed in correctly if you see a shield that appears in the upper right corner.
This signifies that the conversation is protected. Always verify that you are properly logged in before beginning to use Microsoft Copilot Enterprise by verifying the green shield label. Once you are properly logged in, you will see a text entry box (as shown below).
Please reach out to the BYU OIT Help Desk with any questions or concerns accessing Microsoft Copilot.
