ChatGPT is an AI service that takes a text prompt and generates a response based on training data which was scraped from the web. BYU has recently signed a contract along with other CES institutions for the use of ChatGPT Edu. Learn more about ChatGPT Edu.
Conditionally Approved
This service is conditionally approved. BYU currently has a ChatGPT EDU contract in place with limited licenses. Refer to the table below for more information. Adhere to the ChatGPT Edu data restrictions when interacting with ChatGPT.
Data entered into ChatGPT Edu remains private and is not used to improve OpenAI’s models, specifically under the CES agreement. Users may enter Public, Internal, and Confidential data for institutional purposes but should de-identify sensitive information whenever possible. Restricted Data, HIPAA-Protected Data, and Controlled Unclassified Information are not permitted unless explicitly approved by the institutional AI Committee.
